Switzerland at the First Regular Session of the UNDP/UNFPA/UNOS Executive Board

The trend from funding for core to non-core is not new, but the drop that [OIC Mourad Wahba] presented is very worrisome.

This is all the more astonishing against the background of the overall business situation of UNCDF, which has been exceptionally successful in recent years, and has more than doubled non-core funding.

This shows that UNCDF covers a very relevant niche and meets a real demand, not only in the countries of its activities, mostly LDCs, but also among donors with the quality of its work as well as the offered products.

For these reasons, Switzerland intends to maintain the size of its core contribution over the coming years, despite budgetary constraints in order to continue to contribute to the financing of the UNCDF’s core tasks without which successful operation is not possible.

We encourage other member states to follow suit and contribute to long-term continuity of UNCDF’s operations through core funding.
