The United Nations Capital Development Fund (UNCDF) today welcomed the confirmation by the UN General Assembly of the appointment of Alexander De Croo as Administrator of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP). De Croo will also be Managing Director of UNCDF, succeed Acting Administrator and Managing Director Haoliang Xu.
De Croo brings extensive experience in public service, economic policy and international cooperation. As Prime Minister of Belgium (2020–2025) and in earlier roles including Minister of Finance (2018–2020) and Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Development Cooperation, Digital Agenda, Telecom, and Post (2014–2020), he led initiatives that strengthened governance, promoted innovation, and advanced sustainable development.
UNCDF has a unique mandate to deliver financial mechanisms that unlock public and private investment in underserved markets, particularly where development needs are greatest and traditional capital flows are limited.
