Andrew Fyfe, a British national, has close to twenty years’ experience working in international cooperation, with a particular focus on the evaluation of international development policy and programmes. He began his career working for the European Commission at its Brussels headquarters supporting the accession of then candidate countries of Eastern Europe to the European Union, and in a Delegation in Central Asia managing a technical assistance facility in Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan. He then specialized in evaluation, working as an independent consultant applying different evaluation approaches to a wide range of donor-funded programmes and projects in a variety of sectors throughout Africa, Asia and the Middle East. He joined UNCDF in 2010 and has since then been responsible for implementing UNCDF’s evaluation programme: designing and managing external evaluations according to United Nations Evaluation Group norms and standards, embedding evaluation within UNCDF’s programme cycle and supporting UNCDF to develop new evaluation and measurement tools to better capture the results of UNCDF’s work in its various areas of practice.

Andrew is currently pursuing a part-time Doctorate in Policy Research and Practice from the University of Bath and is looking particularly at how the practice of international development can be best influenced by academic research, particularly in the area of evaluation and measurement. This builds on professional training in evaluation from the Evaluators’ Institute and the International Programme on Development Evaluation Training (IPDET) and earlier Master’s Degrees in economics from Birkbeck College, development management from the London School of Economics, and European studies at the College of Europe in Poland.
