Mobile Money for the Poor, a programme of the United Nations Capital Development Fund (UNCDF), the UN's capital investment agency, launched the implementation of its Malawi activities to support the development of branchless and mobile banking that reach rural areas and the unbanked. 
A full-time mobile banking expert will be based in Blantyre for a minimum period of 1,5 year.  He is supported by additional experts on key domains (agent network management, product development, regulation, technical, etc.) who will be called in on a need basis.

Après la cérémonie de lancement du projet « Augmentation de revenus et promotion de l’emploi décent en faveur des femmes et des jeunes» (PARPED), M. Pascal Karorero, Représentant Résident du PNUD a visité le projet d’Appui aux Communes Rurales et aux Initiatives Communautaires (ACRIC); il était accompagné de Armande Sawadogo en mission à Dédougou pour le compte du projet PARPED. Le Coordonnateur du projet, appuyé des experts en Suivi Evaluation et en Développement Economique Local a accueilli le Représentant Résident et lui a fait une présentation des objectifs du projet, des réalisations sur le terrain, des difficultés rencontrées et des perspectives.

UNCDF and UN Women presented the results of the joint Gender Equitable Local Development (GELD) programme at the GELD Policy Forum in Tanzania. The ceremony took place In Dar Es Salam, with opening remarks from the Honorable Mr. Aggrey Mwanri, Deputy Minister of State, Prime Minister’s office regional administration and local government of the republic of Tanzania. Also present, Ms. Anna Collins-Falk, UN Women representative in Tanzania, Mr. Richard Ragan, RR a.i. and WFP representative, and Mr. Marc de Feyter, Head of Cooperation, Embassy of Belgium.

Yesterday, the 8th Annual Meeting of the Development Partners Working Group on Decentralization and Local Governance (DeLOG) took an end. The 3-day workshop co-hosted by UNCDF, UNDP and UN-Habitat, ran under the theme “Effective Multi-Level-Governance for improved development results.”

Yesterday, UNCDF’s Executive Secretary, Mr. Marc Bichler, was participating in the high-level meeting of the ‘Global Task Force of Local and Regional Governments for post-2015 Development Agenda’.
In the framework of the Post-2015 and Habitat III processes, the World Organization of United Cities and Local Governments (UCLG) with members in over 140 countries has invited sister-organizations and partners to join a Global Taskforce of Local and Regional Governments for Post-2015.

The Government of Australia has committed A$5.9million (US$6.15 million) to support the UNCDF-UNDP Joint Programme “Making Access to Finance More Inclusive for Poor People (MAFIPP)”.
The contribution was confirmed today at a ceremony, where an agreement was signed between H.E. Sonexay Sithphaxay, Deputy Governor of Bank of Lao PDR, H.E. Lynda Worthaisong, Australian Ambassador to Laos and Mr. Minh Pham, United Nations Resident Coordinator, in UN House in Vientiane.

At the UN Evaluation Group (UNEG) Annual General Meeting held in April 2013, UNEG has decided to join EvalPartners[1] in declaring 2015 as International Year of Evaluation (EvalYear).
2015 was identified as a strategic year as the evaluation community seeks to mainstream evaluation in the development and implementation of the forthcoming Sustainable Development Goals.
EvalYear will position evaluation in the policy arena by being a catalyst for important conversations and thinking, at international, regional, national, and sub-national level, on the role of evaluation in good governance for equitable and sustainable human development.

The UNDP programme manager and Jenifer Wakhugu, UNCDF’s Technical Advisor of the Deepening Decentralization Programme, together with Lesotho’s Director General of Decentralization and the Director of Decentralization joined the meeting of UNDP’s Administrator Helen Clark and Lesotho’s Deputy Prime Minister Mothetjoa Metsing. The Deputy Prime Minister reaffirmed the government’s commitment to operationalize decentralization by devising conclusive decentralization policies. In this context he commended on UNDP’s and UNCDF’s Deepening Decentralisation Programme, which is set to accelerate the process of decentralization by promoting decentralized service delivery for social and economic growth.
