Mr. Somla, 69, is the head of the water users group for Nahom and Savang villages. One of this jobs is to ensure that the water catchment basin (left) is kept clean and free of debris. Mr. Somla has 22 hectares of rice paddy land which inherited from his family. For 40 years he was a soldier, and fought in various wars. For the past three years, he has focused on community work, as well as growing rice and grandchildren. “I have 8 children and 6 grandchildren,” he said. “And their health depends on keeping the water clean.”
