Final Report

The International Year of Microcredit 2005 met with an unprecedented global response and interest. Government officials, microfinance institutions, private sector financial institutions, regulators, development agencies, students and clients were actively engaged in a dialogue on how to best provide a broad range of financial services to poor and low income people and to micro and small enterprises. This report captures the initiatives undertaken throughout the Year at the international level, national and local levels.

Ce document a été réalisé avec le soutien du Réseau de Microfinance des Pays Arabes, Sanabel, qui, avec ses pays affiliés, a fait une vaste enquête en 2002 et 2003. Cette enquête est la troisième d'une série de publications documentant l'état de la microfinance dans la région des Etats arabes et de suivre l'évolution de cette jeune industrie au fil du temps. Elle vise à cartographier les principaux fournisseurs de la microfinance dans la région et mettre en évidence les défis et les opportunités actuelles pour développer une industrie mature.

Building inclusive financial sectors

This paper was produced with the support of the Microfinance Network of Arab Countries: Sanabel, which, together with its country affiliates, did the extensive yearend 2002 survey and the year-end 2003 mini-survey. This survey is the third in a series of publications documenting the state of microfinance in the Arab States Region and tracking the development of this young industry over time. It attempts to map out the major suppliers of microfinance in the region and highlight the challenges and opportunities present for developing a mature industry.
