About Evaluations at UNCDF
EACH YEAR, UNCDF assesses performance in several projects, according to a number of performance criteria. The evaluations take place mid-way through the project period ("mid-term"), at the end of the project ("final") and a few years after project completion ("ex-post"). The evaluations focus on project design, implementation and impact, and are conducted by independent experts.
The project evaluations assess such goals and objectives as, for example, whether or not the projects incorporated local needs, whether or not they targeted the poorest in society, and whether or not the project design and implementation found better ways to address the needs of women. Where objectives are not reached, a conscientious review of difficulties and shortcomings are conducted to provide important lessons for future project design.

Two corporate evaluations of UNCDF have been undertaken in recent years, in 1998-1999 and most recently the Independent Impact Assessment of UNCDF in 2003-2004. Both comprised organizational evaluations, as well as a series of programme-level evaluations/impact assessments.
