Lors de sa mission à Djibouti, Katiella Moussa, conseiller Technique Régional de l'UNCDF, a assisté à la remise officielle des équipements destinés aux Conseil Régional, aux communautés et aux structures socio-éducatives à Dikhil, financés par l’UNCDF dans le cadre du Programme d'Appui à la Décentralisation et aux Collectivités Locales (PADCL). La cérémonie a eu lieu en présence de son Excellence Monsieur le Ministre de la Santé, du Conseiller Technique du Ministre de l’Intérieur, du Préfet de la Région, des cadres nationaux et régionaux et d’une foule nombreuse.

On 17 October 2012, the UN Capital Development Fund (UNCDF) released its aid information to the International Aid Transparency Initiative (IATI) Registry.
UNCDF publishing its data means that members of the public can now access aid information on its most recent fiscal period. The development will allow people to see where aid money has gone, and will enable partner country governments to better see what is happening in their country.

Yangon, MYANMAR

UNCDF, IFC, the World Bank and CGAP organized the first Consultation Meeting on Financial Inclusion.  The purpose of the meeting was threefold:  IFC/CGAP presented its recent microfinance sector assessment report. The World Bank introduced its upcoming Financial Inclusion for National Development (FIND) programme; and UNCDF, in partnership with UNDP Myanmar and the Livelihood and Food Security Trust Fund (LIFT), launched the consultation for the “Making Access to Finance Possible” (MAP) diagnostic and programming framework.

On October 16 and 17, the UN Capital Development Fund (UNCDF) participated in the European Development Days - Europe's premier forum on international affairs and development cooperation organized by the European Commission and provided expert advice to an audience of European Commission members, representatives of developing countries, donor agencies and NGOs.
In the first event organized by UNCDF, the CleanStart Project Lab, discussion focus on actions needed to expand the energy value chain for poor people, with a particular focus on the role of finance, as well as provide insights into the role of the European development community in advancing this important agenda.

Honiara, SOLOMON ISLANDS

The nine Provincial Premiers of Solomon Islands arrive in Honiara this week ahead of the 6th Premiers conference scheduled to take place in Kira Kira, Makira Ulawa Province from the 22nd to the 26th October 2012. The five day conference of the Provincial Premiers and the Mayor of Honiara City Council shall be officially opened by the Prime Minister, Honourable Gordon Darcy Lilo (MP) on Monday October 22nd in Kira kira.  The Prime Minister and his delegation shall attend the opening ceremony before they fly back to Honiara for the Parliament session.

The second annual GPFI Forum and first GPFI Plenary Meeting were held in Cape Town, South Africa, on September 28-29. Hosted by the National Treasury of South Africa, the GPFI Forum was attended by financial inclusion policy makers and regulators from across the globe, representatives of the G-20 countries, and the GPFI’s Implementing Partners. The Forum was opened with the keynote speeches of Nhlanhla Nene, Deputy Minister of Finance of the Republic of South Africa and Juan Manuel Valle, Head of the Banking, Securities and Savings Department at the Ministry of Finance, Mexico.

On October 1st, 2nd and 3rd, 2012, the Ministry of Local Government and Rural Development (MLGRD) and the Local Councils Association of Sierra Leone (LoCASL), with support from UNDP, UNCDF in partnership with JICA, GIZ, ILO and the Commonwealth Secretariat, organized the first Peer Review and Methodological Workshop on Local Economic Development (LED) in Sierra Leone, at Wusum Hotel in Makeni City.

CleanStart, a joint global programme of the UN Capital Development Fund (UNCDF) and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), was launched today at a function attended by key members of the government, academia, financial sector, development sector and energy sectors. The CleanStart programme seeks to expand access to clean energy for the poor through microfinance and responsive energy value chains.
In Nepal, CleanStart aims to support 600,000 poor people and micro-entrepreneurs to have access to modern energy services through microfinance. It also seeks to build end-user confidence in the reliability of technologies chosen for lending by strengthening supply chains.
