The 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA81) officially opened on 8 September 2026, bringing Member States to New York for multilateral dialogue and action, including the high-level General Debate from 22–28 September.
For the UN Capital Development Fund (UNCDF), UNGA81 marks an important moment to put its 2026–2029 Strategic Framework into action, advancing its role as an early-stage provider of catalytic concessional capital and helping create the conditions for larger flows of public and private finance to reach Least Developed Countries (LDCs), Small Island Developing States (SIDS) and other markets where financing gaps remain greatest.
As UNCDF looks ahead to its 60th anniversary, its engagements during UNGA81 will demonstrate how this mandate translates into action. Across a series of high-level events, roundtables and partnerships, UNCDF will bring its financing expertise to discussions on mobilizing private capital, climate and resilience finance, subnational investment, digital financial inclusion and emerging technologies, sustainable food, water and ocean economies, trade finance, financing for resilience and peace among others.
Through these engagements, UNCDF will work with Member States, UN partners, development finance institutions, foundations and the private sector to build new partnerships, advance existing ones, develop financing solutions and help move capital towards the markets and communities where it can have the greatest catalytic effect.
