UNCDF has been present in Cambodia since the early 1990s beginning with the goal of implementing a strategic framework for fiscal decentralization and local development.

Since the 1990's, UNCDF’s mission has developed and evolved and is currently formulating financial inclusion and local development finance programmes at the sub-national level.

Today, UNCDF offers catalytic finance models that unlock public and private resources in “last mile” environments, especially at the domestic level, to reduce poverty and support local economic development.

UNCDF’s establishment of YouthStart Global in Cambodia is convening stakeholders within the youth sector to provide economic opportunities for more holistic services geared toward youth, including capacity-building in opportune sectors. YouthStart increased access to financial services for low-income youth by developing approaches to offer youth tailored financial and non-financial services.
