This study, commissioned by UNCDF in collaboration with the Guinean Chamber of Mines, focuses on the industrial mining sector. Its main objective is to take stock of the main initiatives and funding mechanisms, both public and private, of community development in the mining sector, and to identify the actors and innovative dynamics at work.
This reports explores what are the existing frameworks in Africa, the main national experiences and the different interprétations of « local context »
There seems to be a consensus on the importance of enabling the population of mining countries, and in particular the communities directly impacted, to better benefit from sustainable economic spin-offs that would enable them to achieve a better standard of living during the exploitation period and in the so-called "post-mining" phase. The issue of financing local development through mining sector spillovers, which is the subject of this study, is therefore at the heart of the development challenges of LDCs with a mining vocation.
