In continuation to the previous session, on March 10th, 2021 CILRIF Working Group members carried on the discussion about climate modeling challenges and pilot set-up.
A brief summary of the session's outcomes:
- current climate models can be re-calibrated and applied to a long-term horizon that fits the Project's outlook of 10 to 20 years;
- key modifications to be made to a climate model of choice: integrating resiliency measures, integrating the target urban areas' specific environmental characteristics, and projecting climate change impact on hazard intensity/frequency;
- data availability constitutes a significant challenge as it differs from geography to geography - it should be considered as a key parameter when choosing pilot locations;
- as premium clauses benefit all the partners involved in the endeavour, the Group should seek out to develop a mechanism to combine investment in future assets and reduction in vulnerability based on insurance cover.
