Digital Finance Ethiopia Showcase 2022: Ensuring full participation in Ethiopia’s digital economy through innovative, accessible and inclusive digital financial services.

Organized by the Digital Financial Services Working Group-Ethiopia and supported by the United Nations Capital Development Fund (UNCDF) and its partners, the European Union (EU) and the Organization of African, Caribbean and Pacific States (OACPS)

The Digital Financial Services Working Group-Ethiopia, convened and launched earlier this year by UNCDF and its partners, is organizing the first DFS Ethiopia Showcase event as part of its mandate to unite all DFS players to collaborate and work towards advancing the country’s digital economy. The showcase will provide a platform for over 40 DFS players to display their innovations contributing to achieving the digital transformation priorities of Ethiopia.

The event will bring the various stakeholders together to share best practices and facilitate networking with other ecosystem players and high-level decision-makers from government and industry. Additionally, it will enhance interactions on varied issues, including a policy and regulatory environment that encourages competition and supports technological innovations that cater to the marginalized and ensure their full participation in the digital economy.

What policies and regulations are needed to encourage competition, drive innovation in the ecosystem, and allow digital financial services to scale sustainably? What recent interventions has the government taken toward the country’s digitization process-what has been the impact and challenges? What regional insights can be leveraged to build a resilient digital economy? How can the innovations in the DFS space be made more relevant for the consumer in terms of savings, bill payments, remittances, etc? Panellists and speakers from the government, the private sector and international development agencies lined for the unique sessions over the two days will discuss and explore ways to accelerate Ethiopia’s digital transformation in line with its ‘Digital Ethiopia 2025 strategy.’

This event, which will converge companies driving impactful innovations and the best brains in the industry, is one of the ways that UNCDF is supporting the working group to contribute to the government’s effort toward accelerating the growth of Ethiopia’s digital economy. The goal is to ensure that no one in Ethiopia is left behind in the digital era.
