Strengthening Financial Resilience in the Pacific: 16 Lessons Learned from Implementing Climate Risk Insurance Solutions

Summary

During the inception phase (2021-2022) of the Pacific Insurance and Climate Adaptation Programme (PICAP), the Programme developed affordable climate risk insurance products, targeted at the agriculture, fisheries, retail and tourism sectors with a specific focus on women, youth, migrants and micro, small, and medium enterprise (MSME) segments.

To strengthen continuous learning and knowledge-sharing, this publication captures the lessons learned from implementing climate risk insurance solutions in the Pacific over the last two years which have been summarized under six thematic categories: partnerships, innovative insurance product development, distribution, outreach and capacity-building, managing for impact and sustainability and evidence-based programming.

This publication is brought to you by the Pacific Insurance and Climate Adaptation Programme, which is jointly administered by the United Nations Capital Development Fund (UNCDF), the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and the United Nations University Institute for Environment and Human Security (UNU-EHS).
