Miguel is a Structuring and Guarantee Specialist at UNCDF.

Miguel is part of the Investment and Finance Oversight Division, where he provides oversight and advice on best practices to ensure quality and consistency across the organization’s blended finance operations.

He has over 20 years of experience working with financial markets, including nine years of expertise on blended finance, with a focus on guarantees. He has structured and deployed several guarantees with financial institutions like MDBs, funds, and local banks/MFIs.

Prior to joining UNCDF, Miguel served at the UNDP Sustainable Finance Hub in New York, advising on de-risking strategies, blended finance, and guarantee mechanisms. With a background in both the public and private sectors, he has held key positions at the Swedish Supervisory Authority, where he oversaw credit risk in the tier 1 banking sector, and spent a decade at SEB Merchant Banking, where he specialized in project finance, client relations, and credit analysis. Miguel brings a strong analytical and practical understanding of how financial tools can drive development impact.

Miguel holds a Master’s Degree in Business Administration with a focus on International Business from Stockholm University and studied at Pontificia de Comillas (ICADE) in Madrid. Fluent in Swedish, English, and Spanish, he brings a strong international perspective to his work in sustainable and innovative finance.
