Kenji Shundo

Chief Risk Manager

Kenji Shundo is Chief Risk Manager at the United Nations Capital Development Fund. A Japanese national, Kenji is a risk and investment leader, and holds an MBA from the University of Rochester.

He joined UNCDF in January 2025 and oversees corporate risk identification and management, providing matrixed oversight of transactional risk operations within UNCDF’s Investment Finance unit. Prior to joining the team, Kenji worked at the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD) as Senior Investment Officer, where he developed governance frameworks and structured blended finance platforms, including a risk-sharing facility for climate adaptation financing and an impact investing fund for small agri-enterprises across East Africa. He also spent seven years at the African Development Bank (AfDB) as Principal Investment Officer and Principal Risk Officer, leading large-scale infrastructure finance transactions and managing equity risk for direct and private equity fund investments. Earlier in his career, Kenji worked at the Japan International Cooperation Agency as a Credit Risk Officer, Deutsche Bank as Vice President in investment banking, and Mizuho Bank as a Corporate Finance Associate.
