Joash Okachia

Investment Analyst

Nairobi, Kenya

Joash Okachia is an Investment Analyst at the United Nations Capital Development Fund (UNCDF). Joash supports UNCDF’s investment strategy by helping design, develop, and manage a portfolio financed by grants, loans, and guarantees. He undertakes underwriting and due diligence (financial, ESG, and compliance), prepares investment memos and models, and engages financial institutions and public–private partners to mobilize co-financing for development impact. Working closely with the investment, risk, and operations functions—and partnering with programme teams across the organization—he contributes to the effective and efficient growth of UNCDF’s portfolio.

Joash began his career in entrepreneurship as a co-founder and finance lead at Avian Foods, where he managed operations and early-stage financial planning. He later moved into fintech credit control at OPay/OKash, strengthening portfolio monitoring and risk processes. From 2019 to 2023, he served as Senior Investment Analyst at Raisin Limited, where he screened and structured equity, quasi-equity, and debt transactions for African SMEs, led valuations and financial models, and supported enterprise assessments for initiatives such as IFC’s SheWins Africa and GAVI INFUSE. Since joining UNCDF in 2023, he has contributed to structuring a €23 million solar-powered cold-chain initiative in Kenya, designed a de-risking package for a Kenyan financial institution (including a $180,000 guarantee and $30,000 of technical assistance), and supported a UN Joint SDG Fund digital-platform project (approximately $3 million) among other notable transactions he has worked on. He also helped convene the inaugural Bridging Africa–Europe SDG Investment Summit in Nairobi and developed portfolio QA/BD monitoring tools for initiative management under UNCDFs Investment Advisory Initiative 1.0.

A Kenyan national, he brings over seven years of experience across the private sector, investment advisory, and development finance. Joash holds a Bachelor of Commerce (Actuarial Science) from Kenyatta University and is pursuing an MSc in Finance & Investment Management at the University of Liverpool.
